While new players pick at the edge, Microsoft continues to dominate the operating system market.

Market Applications reports Microsoft lost 1.53% market share during 2009.

MAC and Linux remained static and the gain was almost totally in portable systems like the iPhone OS and Google’s Android. Portable operating systems are used on 1.53% of the computing devices.

Windows 7 just broke 8% market share at the end of December 2009 while Google’s Android is the fastest growing portable OS.
