Myrtle Jenkins Smith closing down Make-A-Reservation PNP sponsored start-up company

In the continuing story of what’s Myrtle (MJS) up to now, the new CEO of Tourism Charlottetown has jumped from the frying pan into the fire. She may have to pay back the PNP expansion or start up money since she didn’t expand any company and now is closing it down.

If Jenkins-Smith winds up Make-A-Reservation who will pay the refund should the Chinese investors fail to get a visa?

In April 2009, Innovation Minister Campbell told companies to get legal advice since he believes the companies who got the money will have to make the refunds. Businesses face 5 times liability over PNP.

Maybe the move to Tourism Charlottetown is an escape route for Jenkins-Smith before the Chinese come knocking on her door.

President Obama has to watch his p’s and q’s with the Chinese government since he owes them $1.6 trillion. As Premier Harper found out yesterday, you don’t mess with the Chinese. They gave him a public scolding on his past indiscretions. Jenkins-Smith might be up a river without a paddle trying to bring Chinese Tourists to Charlottetown if she they get riled at her for business shenanigans.

Will Jenkins-Smith and her fellow shareholders in Make-A-Reservation Inc. be paying the Island Investment non-compliance penalty of $55,000 per PNP unit or $220,000?

“Startup companies may utilize the first unit of Provincial Nominee Program investment to meet the minimum $150,000 threshold. However, the shareholder(s) will be required to sign a “Use of Proceeds Agreement”. This agreement will assess a $55,000 penalty to the shareholder(s) if funds are not used as described in the business plan.” Island Investment PEI PNP Evaluation of Investee Companies

Where did the $200,000 PNP investment in Make-A-Reservation go? Was it invested in expansion, perhaps office equipment or a building or other capital assets. Did Make-A-Reservation have employees who carried out business operations? CBC reported they don’t even have a phone and the customers listed on the web site never heard of Make-A-Reservation.

CBC has been running with stories for the past two weeks on the conflicts of interest between Tourism Charlottetown and MJS. People think NJN Network is relentless. We’ve been on the sidelines on this one watching the show.

Jenkins-Smith got a new job at Tourism PEI. Tourism Charlottetown has new heads which is either a horror movie or a terrible double-entendre.

Jenkins-Smith and her sidekick Carr-Rollitt got executive positions with Tourism Charlottetown in exchange for closing down their company Conference and Events Management.

Then on Monday CBC did a long interview with Jenkins-Smith and she admitted she is part owner of the building that rents to her new boss. New tourism boss shuts her private firm

That would be a conflict of interest – or just friends PEI-style – so Jenkins-Smith agreed to sell the building share back to Kevin Murphy who is – oops the head of Tourism Charlottetown. That’s another conflict of interest but who has time for all of these things.

On Tuesday the folks at Tourism Charlottetown put their heads together on this one. Tourism Charlottetown checks for conflict of interest ‘We aren’t aware of every single dealing that she may have.’ said Doug Newson Tourism Charlottetown. That was the understatement of the year.
