The new act should be called the PEI Employment Sub-Standards Act
With the new compromise sick leave benefits on PEI, we will become a destination for sweat shop operators. Last night they compromised on sick leave. Employees earn one sick day with pay after five years of employment.
Yes you read that right – don’t get sick for five years and then keep it short. The rest of the new act is like that – mean and miserable.
We have a low minimum – read slave – wage. The labour laws here are so weak you can abuse the face of employees with impunity. The government keeps social assistance at such a low rate that people are desperate for any job.
PEI Liberals are not the agents of liberal social change. This is the party of mean business.
Looking at the big picture, what is the largest project the Ghiz Liberals have handled? The $540 million PNP scandal that improved the lives and financial happiness of businesses and politicians.
This government is so wicked it makes the Pat Binns government look angelic.
On the CBC site, some mentioned the hypocrisy of the government which gives its own employees 1.25 days per month for sick leave, starting with their employment not five years later.
