Intruder attempts break and entry in Charlottetown bedroom

3 AM attempt to enter bedroom of sleeping teenager foiled by older sister

An unknown perpetrator attempted to enter a Charlottetown residence at 3 AM last night. The person, thought to be a young male or female, removed an outside screen on a basement window and jimmied the window open. The window was above the bed of a sleeping teenage female.

The perpetrator was attempting to enter and knocked over a Christmas candle decoration while moving the blinds aside. The person had pulled the cord to pull the blinds up facilitating their entrance.

The only light on in the room was a night light near the sleeping girl. Her older sister was in the far corner of the room browsing the internet. She turned around quickly and saw the hand and arm of a small male or female entering the room.

She yelled “Who are you?” and the person removed their arm and appeared to flee.

She woke up her sleeping sister and told her to leave the room. She then rushed upstairs and excitedly told her parents.

The Charlottetown police were called and arrived within minutes. No one appeared to be outside the home. A screen from the window was found in the bushes nearby.

“I thought it might have been my older sister, playing a joke on me because I was up late on the computer,” the older sister said. “But I called her and she was at home downtown.”

Police are investigating.

The window had been barred to prevent entry but the sisters had removed the protections. Last night they put the bars back on their bedrooms windows.
