More than 100,000 people from around the world gathered in Copenhagen Denmark to demonstrate for world climate change.

Delegates to the demonstrations from Canada included Toronto Mayor David Miller. He was with a group of 100 municipal leaders from across Canada who want the Federal government to step up its climate change efforts.

“Like most Canadians, I’m embarrassed. I’m embarrassed that our government continues to be one of the biggest obstacles to reaching agreement,” Mr. Miller said moments before accepting two new “Fossil of the Day” awards on behalf of Canada.

“I chose to come here to tell people that Canadians are acting despite the fact that Canada isn’t. They’re acting through their cities. The mayor of Copenhagen and I have convened a summit of mayors here next week. We have over 100 mayors. Cities are doing incredible things. Calgary’s rapid transit is all powered by wind, and Canadians themselves, are acting in their own lives as well, and so are many provinces.”  National Post story

Police arrested more than 1,000 demonstrators as a precautionary measure. Demonstrating for climate change is a new crime in the UK.

Many of the demonstrators are using street theatre to draw attention to their concerns. Some people dressed as polar bears, pandas and Greenpeace sent people in cardboard boxes. You can read more about Greenpeace efforts, sign their petition and learn about Climate Change at their website.
