When will CBC start reporting news on PEI

Hiding PNP stories could be corruption or laziness

CBC management in Charlottetown has made an explicit decision to minimize reporting on the Provincial Nominee Program.

They have done the research. They have the facts. Yet they refuse to run the stories. Why is that?

Relatively speaking, the Charlottetown Guardian is doing a better job of coverage although they rarely understand what the stories mean at the Guardian. You have to read the online readers comments for the real meaning of stories. Perhaps the Guardian is holding their powder so to speak.

The CBC only covers the story when it is brought up in the Legislature or in a press release by Olive Crane, leader of the Opposition.

Yet the story is much deeper than that. For instance, Deb Allen’s radio interview with Myrtle Jenkins-Smith barely touched on the PNP issue. Smith is a a highly placed Liberal operative on PEI with multiple companies that received numerous PNP units.

One company Make-A-Reservation received 4 PNP units yet it is inactive, has no phone number or employees. That is a story. Jenkins-Smith got PNP funds outside the rules.

CBC has known this for more than six months.  Yet they blithely pass the story over, along with hundreds of other stories connected to the PNP scandal.

In the case of Jenkins-Smith, CBC made only a passing reference to the story as part of her recent patronage appointment to Tourism PEI.

That is just one company of the many that Jenkins-Smith either owns in whole or part that got PNP money.

CBC reported that on the radio which has a tiny audience compared with Compass their 90 minute TV show at supper hour.

Why has Compass not done a serious study of the PNP scandal?

Is it because people at the CBC are themselves involved with the PNP scandal? CBC political reporter John Jeffery is an admitted recipient of PNP funds, perhaps more than $200,000.

Whether through laziness or corruption CBC has stopped reporting the serious stories on PEI. We have reported this to the highest levels at the CBC, first to the Ombudsman and then to the President and CBC Board of Directors. They did nothing.

Why is the CBC funded with tax payer’s dollars when they don’t serve the public and don’t report the news?

  1. The CBC is yanking the stories even if they do cover them.

Meek VanLeeuwen and Lightfoot must have strong connections in the CBC world which is of course full of Liberal deadwood, even worse than DVA.

There is a strange absence of any MP on the PNP issue, it was a federal provincial program.

CBC Charlottetown delayed breaking the story last year because the CBC board of directors were in town for a meeting and Lightfoot didn’t want to make waves. CBC is deathly afraid in Ottawa and Toronto because when Harper gets a majority he will gut them. There is simply to much influence, CBC Charlottetown is withholding news and lacking vigor in exposing the story.

CBC on radio and on tv are weak rehashing e mail and never any live studio, all taped edited approved by Meek, crap.

But the PNP Jeffery’s got the pays back. The rule changes by Brooke made the money all grant money, big big difference.

The other thing about CBC is the web page is limp, limp.

  2. Why is the CBC hiding the truth maybe because many of the Senior CBC employees all have gotten PNP units or have received promises of plum Coomunication Jobs within the Liberal Government.

Just look at the sweet position that Ron Ryder from the Guardian received. Communications person for the Environment Department.

I expect the Premier’s Communication’s people have told all the island media to behave if they want wany chance at some nice jobs. Keeping in mind that Ghiz’ senior advisors own spouse is the News Director at one of the Radio stations.

Getting fair reporting in the Island media is limited to the Graphic and maybe some from Ms.Wright at the Guardian.

Although I will say of late Wayne Thiebedeau from The Guardian at times seems to waving from supporting Ghiz. Some of Thiebedeau’s stories of late seem to be almost like agressive and hard hitting. Maybe the recent scandal involving Pate and the fact that it looked very like the fact that Thiebedeau was really on the Government’s Payroll has done something to Thiebedeau or else maybe his bosses.

The Myrtle Scandal has legs if the media just continue to investigate.

I would be interested to know what the Canada revenue Agency has to say about Myrtle’s comments. She is the President of the Company that received $200,000 in PNP money supposedly to grow and expand the business but the business doesn’t really exist and Myrtle says she doesn’t have much to do with it.

It would be interesting to see just where the $200,000 in PNP went.

  3. CBC as the national public broadcaster has definitely fallen down on PNP. They have never interviewed MPs though it is a program of federal responsibility. CBC has not followed up on stories about individuals that they have- Myrtle, Brooke, Kevin Murphy, etc.

They only specifically went after one individual- MacEachern, a protester, for God’s sake! That morning the CBC was particularly disgusting wondering ‘ why he was so interested’. That was one of the most reprehensible moments in media history on PEI.

CBC also downplayed Brooke’s take for myself as not conflict of interest but the appearance thereof. They never corrected that mistake.

CBC is also notable for never giving background on PNP- esp. the key decisions made by the Ghiz govt. in regard to federal regulations in 2008. Private sector media have the option for this omission; CBC as the public broadcaster does not! The Guardian’s Wright series was much closer to proper journalism.

CBC staff and management have been called into question on PNP and they have ignored these pointed, legitimate concerns!

    CBC should be ashamed!

Many people are carefully monitoring staff and management and their connections to Ghiz and others struggling to cover up the PNP scandal. One day these individuals will pay the price of this chicanery.
