With the spotlight on me, I thought I could do it. We'd rehearsed a million times. But somehow, that specific instance my turn came up, I crashed and burned and each word was nearly a screech. It was awful. I'm sure it can happen to anyone, even a young woman who has played for thousands of fans. You could probably be confronted by a bunch of people who are older, better, and think you're nothing more than a flash in the pan marketing ploy. I used to snark a lot about her, but being 10 years older than her, I doubt I would have ever had her poise. I'm still figuring out who I am (sad, I know), but she is so self-possessed that I can't help but admire her.
