Microsoft Office 2010 beta available

Let’s hope it works better than Office 2007

The anticipated Office 2010 launch date gets closer as Microsoft releases its public beta. The MSDN beta was available earlier.

Michael Dell says Office 2010 and Windows 7 will restore your faith in computers. That would be great since both Office 2007 and Vista bombed.

Vista was initially buggy. Microsoft changed most of the user interface with Office 2007 and confused people who had used versions of the product for 20 years.

Personally, I hate Office 2007 and struggle each day to find things I used

with ease before. There is no logic to the screens, drop downs and menus.

The demand for the free download must be horrendous. We haven’t been able to activate the download yet. Oops started and only one hour to go.

While you can download either 32-bit or 64-bit versions of Office 2010, if you are already running 32-bit Office (most likely) you will need the 32-bit version of Office 2010. The 32 bit version is supposed to be compatible with Windows 7 64 bit.

Do not upgrade your existing version of Office. Install a new copy in a new directory. If you don’t like the beta, at least your existing software should be intact. An upgrade will delete your current software.
