The PEI Liberals announced a partial ban on lawn chemicals. Golf courses and “emergency” home use of poisonous lawn chemicals will be allowed next year.

Minister Richard Brown, or “Brownie” as he is know less-than-affectionately by those he has betrayed on this and other issues, is quoted on CBC.

“Environment Minister Richard Brown told CBC News Tuesday every time they use the pesticides, they’ll have to let government know.

“We can go out and audit it, we can go out and check it beforehand and after. And if we find abuse of the system, we’ll cut their licence off,” said Brown.”

The more cynical assume that large donations to the Liberal Party by the lawn care companies paid off in another failure of the Ghiz liberals to deliver an election promise.

There are many disgruntled people who supported Robert Ghiz on the premise of a total ban. Most of them have already realized Ghiz is a prevaricator and a phony. He never keeps his promises to the public, except the promise to make his relatives and close political friends rich.

I could not figure out why people were promoting Where’s Cynthia? t-shirts two weeks ago at the Charlottetown Farmer’s Market. MLA Cynthia Dunsford was a FM regular who held court at the famous # 1 table with George regularly on Saturdays.

Dunsford campaigned vigorously on the ban-cosmetic pesticides issue and won many votes and popular support for her position.

Once in government, the cyclist could be seen doing the Olympic back-pedal maneuver on her less and less frequent public appearances.

“Cyn” as she is affectionately known in her pre-government days was the CBC radio personality Parkdale Doris who lampooned the Conservative Binns government for their foibles and hypocrisy.

Perhaps this was just another case of PEI media hiding as greedy wolves in cheaps clothing.

Editor – some remarks in this are satirical in case members of the Legislature or PEI media are reading. Everybody else knows.

  1. Classic Island government sneakiness. Announce one thing and then introduce half-measures under a haze of confusion and ignorance. The hallmark of this government is the pointlessness of their prevarications (as you so rightly label them). I mean, why not just ban the stuff? Who is benefitting from the half-measures? The golf course owner lobbyists? How many votes do they have?

  2. How many more people need to die from cancer? How many more kids need to come into this world with autism?

The health care researchers are estimating that autism rates will rise to 1 child in 6 will develop autism in the next 2 years. Frightening statistics.

Such a shame our politicians have little regard for the people who set them up for life with pensions, offshore bank accounts, and positions on Boards they pass special bills for.
