Did the Tories run down highway construction?
Liberals say the darnedest things
Watching Question Period in the PEI Legislature can be amusing. Yesterday it reminded me of the old Art Linkletter show Kids Say the Darnedest Things
Transportation and Public Works Minister Ronnie McKinley filled out his reply to an unconnected question with the statement “Nothing was done to the highways in the past 11 years.”
He was referring to the Conservative Binns government who, he claimed, had done no road construction or maintenance for 11 years.
We thought that odd, so we checked.
Sorry Ronnie. You’re doing a great job but it’s plainly not true the Conservatives spent little on highways.
Unadjusted for inflation, Binns Government spent $27 million a year since 1999 on roads and bridges. The Liberals have spent $34 million which is a 25% increase.
Don’t those kids say the darnedest things?
