A black and white case of Micael Mayne needs his wife nearby

Michael Mayne hires his wife. Why not?

Nepotism has always been the best way to get a job on PEI. MLAs wives, children, brothers, sisters, mothers and fathers. We’re not voting in MLAs – we vote in their families.

Nepotism is “patronage bestowed or favoritism shown on the basis of family relationship, as in business and politics: She was accused of nepotism when she made her nephew an officer of the firm.: (Dictionary.com)

Look at the names in the Provincial civil service. Lots of double income families. He works in Highways: she’s in Property Tax.

Roddie Pratt was one of the first people I met on PEI in 1975, a pretty genial and talkative country guy. Amazingly his daughter-in-law was a sales tax auditor.

Don’t you worry your pretty little head over that chile. It’s the way things are done in the ole swamp down on Rochford Street.

Hiring priorities, in the land of Anne and scarce jobs are:

  1. family first – especially any one related to the Premier and cabinet ministers and deputies
  2. close political allies – as in donors or people who worked on your campaign executive
  3. friends
  4. mid-level political allies – worked on your campaign but can be replaced next campaign
  5. friends of friends – must have voted right
  6. political hangers-on – they hung around on election day and drove two seniors to the polls or picked people up from the bootleggers
  7. then the public – the naive who fill out paperwork for jobs, they “must be from away.”

The Premier’s use of words and indiscretion shows he may be young but he knows pork barrel politics.

Nepotism exists in business as well. Island Tel was stuffed with related staff. The late Harry MacLauchlan liked to hire family of family.

A job is a job.

  1. Mayne is a Disgrace to PEI.

This is the guy who Ghiz has to bow down to in order to make him keep his mouth shut about PNP.

I always thought blackmail was illegal. But here it is obvious Mayne is Blackmailing Ghiz.

Ghiz will do anything wittle mikey asks so Mayne will keep his mouth shut about PNP.

Only problem is that it is the taxpayers of PEI who are footing the bill for blackmail payments.

I can only hope when the RCMP starts a probe into PNP that Mayne will figure highly in it.

This man is disgrace to the Province and it’s people. He threw a temper tantrum the other night when his integrity was questioned by the media and the public and than the next day Ghiz threw his own in order to keep Mayne from resigning.

Any credibility Mayne had is now gone. It is evident Mayne only cares about Mayne and the hell with PEI.

I would say the time has come for Ghiz to end this guys job and send him back to his high paying federal Government job (which I might add WE are paying for while he employed by the Provincial Government). Pretty good deal here he keeps his Federal Job while he works for the province and gets the same pay in the Provincial Government and once his Provincial job ends he goes back to his cushy Federal job.

These are the kind of People Ghiz says we are lucky to have. These are nothing but public purse Tit Suckers who can’t get a job in the private sector to they get Government jobs.

The same is true for Ms. Campbell( she doesn’t deserve the DR title because because doctors have respect for others and in turn earn the public’s respect..this person has NOT earned the public’s respect in fact any she did have she lost).

The time has come now for Ghiz to cut the public’s purse string to this two and let them go back tow here they came from and save the island Taxpayers in excess of $250,000 (quarter million) these two are costing us.

What is humourous in all this though is Ghiz a Liberal Premier is out defending a girl who uncle is running for the Federal Conservatives(Robert Campbell) and whose brother is judge in PEI (Gordon Campbell). It is all this girl’s relatives are all current or former public purse tit suckers. Has anyone in this girls family ever actually had a private sector job or would they even know how to get one.

  2. The post above by Scott pretty well sums it up rather accurately, and his data as it relates to the families passes the smell test.

But my concerns are over food security for my fellow Islanders and the lack of connection and awareness of the Development deputy minister in regards to this real dilemma facing P.E.I..

Dr. Mayne’s economic development plan for P.E.I released earlier never mentioned anything about farming or any programs to assist this industry in dire straits.

He has no connection to the Island way of life and he is leading us away from our strengths in agriculture, fisheries, and tourism. Islanders are very skilled and well suited for these types of sectors.

There is too much corruption in the political system here on P.E.I.today; we need to start over again and enjoy one of the most beautiful Islands in the world by removing the cancer prevalent in Island politics at all levels across P.E.I..

This situation can be turned around if people join together and work for highest good of all that is.

  3. Re Roddie Pratt—just for the record his daughter in law WAS a tax auditor—she passed away about 2 years ago and I worked with her and she was a very smart and well qualified employee and a real pleasure to work with.

  4. Thanks for bringing me up to speed. I’m sorry to hear she passed away. I hadn’t seen her for 14 years.
