Michael Dell says netbooks suck and Windows 7 rocks

Michael Dell, CEO Dell Computers

Get Windows 7 and Office 2010, you will love your PC again

Michael Dell, CEO Dell Computers

Story from ComputerWorld

I think netbooks with their tiny 8″ to 10″ screens and slow processors are dumb. But when Michael Dell, CEO of Dell Computers and the man who sells them says they are dumb, you can believe it.

“Take a user who’s used to a 15-inch notebook and then give him a 10-inch netbook. He’ll say ‘Oh, this is so cool, it’s so lightweight.’ Then 36 hours later he’ll say the screen’s not big enough, give me my 15-inch back.”

“A fair amount of customers” have been unsatisfied with the smaller screens and lower-performance parts, he said later. “For a replacement machine or for a high-end machine, it’s not what we’d recommend.” Dell speaking at Silicon Valley dinner

He went on to praise Windows 7 as the best thing since sliced bread when combined with pb&j otherwise known as the soon-to-be-released Office 2010. All they woul have to do is fix the issues with Office 2007 to make me and plenty other people happy.

“If you get the latest processor technology and you get Windows 7 and Office 2010, you will love your PC again,” Dell said. “And we actually have not been able to say that for a long time. It’s a dramatic improvement.”

Windows 7 seems to make life a little faster. I have the final version working for 3 days now and it is faster with a few glitches. Every piece of software I’ve tried has worked without a hitch. Call me converted.

I read Dell’s quote. He didn’t say they were dumb. He said that they’re not recommended as a replacement for your regular or high end PC.

For someone who travels and requires something that is lightweight and can easily access the web to check their email, update a blog, update Facebook… then a netbook is ideal. If it gets stolen, you’re only out $300.

I presume you just don’t travel very much.

Windows 7? “The future of computing is the Macintosh.” Bill Gates

Considering that Micro$oft has done little but copy the Mac OS since 1984, Mr. Gates was obviously serious.

Their problem has always been they were a few OS versions behind and they never have been able to get it quite right. The first release is always a bug-filled disaster.

Considering the Apple copied Xerox and wouldn’t have a business except Microsoft wrote Excel and Word for them, considering Apple has less than 10% market share, considering Jobs cribbed Unix to come up with OS X and Microsoft cribbed Unix and Digital’s os to create NT…considering the cross-fertilization of concepts and ideas has created a fantastic industry you are right.

It’s the hottest gift this year, most popular computer, and sold 30,000,000 strong so far. So why don’t you or why won’t you use your netbook? You see what they forgot to tell you is that super small computer they sold you had a cramped keyboard and a extra small track-pad. It also doesn’t have a DVD-RW so making music CDs is out. Want to pop in software you got a for a great deal from DigitalTreasures, you are out of luck again. So what do you do with this cramped little computer?

Well, fortunately the folks at PC Treasures have been around the block a few times. We’ve had a chance to try out most of the Netbooks on the market, this is why we chose the MSI Wind netbook for our Ultimate Netbook Package. Why? Because it offers a real usable keyboard, track pad with conventional buttons, and support like no other computer manufacturer. Quite simply we think its the most usable, most durable Netbook on the market. Whether you buy it from us or another vendor you will love it
