Should we add this new collection of Dylan art and sketches?

The ultimate Bob Dylan collector may want to look at the new release of 8 new drawings in the Drawn Blank series.

At £1,250 each and £9,250 for the box set, they are definitely not for everyone who lives Like a Rolling Stone. The edition is limited to 295 copies.

It’s hard to figure a guy who shows up drunk and full of disdain for the establishment when he receives the Tom Paine award. When Princeton University gave Dylan an honorary degree in 1970 he could hardly “wait to get outta there alive”

He once taunted Andy Warhol to give him a painting when he told friends Warhol wasn’t a real artist. Of course, that was the arrogance and braggadocio of youth.

These days Dylan likes his accolades and keeps a copy of his Oscar for Things Have Changed on stage when he performs. Maybe I’ll get out those old sales award plaques and put them on the wall, along with my camp swim meet medals and ribbons.

Gerry Woking waxed eloquent on Drawn Blank 2008, calling it “Echoes of German Abstract Expressionism…stylistically naïve, but all the pieces evoke emotion. And his use of colour is remarkable.”

For a mere £39.95, we mortals can purchase the hardcover book. One should you know, if they already have everything Dylanish in their collection.

The 1994 hard cover edition, first print, is going for $493 US on eBay. It’s hard to say what value will be placed on this edition.

For some reason, the Brits love this stuff and values have climbed over in the UK.

“Bob Corsie, owner of Breeze, said the next release of limited edition prints tomorrow (Saturday) was likely to prove just as collectible for investment purposes.

Bob said: “The 29 pieces in the original Drawn Blank release have all been sound investments for their owners and I expect the new releases to do just as well.

“The bigger, more iconic pieces such as the Train Tracks portfolio retailed at just under £5,000 when first released last June and are now fetching prices of between £8,500 and £9,000.

“Some people like Dylan’s music, some his poetry and others his art. While it may not be to everyone’s taste it is without doubt proving to be a very good investment.”
