The Nova Scotia government was defeated trying to pass a retroactive bill that formed part of its budget. The NDP, which has previously propped up the minority government, voted the bill down and the government fell.

Conservative Premier Rodney MacDonald must call on the Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia to call the election to make it official.

Standings in the Legislature before the election are Liberals 9 seats, NDP 20 seats and Progressive Conservatives 21.

The NDP are within striking distance of winning an election. It would be their first provincial win east of Ontario.

The February 2009 CRA poll gives the lead to the NDP with 36% for the NDP, 31% for the Liberals and 30% for the Conservatives.

It’s not hard to conceive of a change in government with a deep recession, so many people out of work and the corruption in the Conservative government.

Like PEI, MacDonald’s government got a black eye from its patronage handling of the Provincial Nominee Program.

The Election site is up already on the internet. The government knew this was coming.

  1. sky

Trying to retroactivly make his illegal move legal… That’s a paddlin’. Also a loss of confidence in his government.
    Election Time!

  2. and now the NDP bring in the very budget, offshore money spending deal and all, that they brought the conservatives down for. If ever there was proof that they are all the same, this is it right here
