Easter Seals down

And Rotary is still in denial

With story from the Charlottetown Guardian

The results from this year’s Easter Seals are down $16,000 from last year which was down $25,000 from the year before. The total receipts this year were $135,439 which is a silly number since the Tim Horton’s Ambassador Tour is not completed. It could be higher or lower.

“David Lopes, P.E.I. Easter Seals campaign chairman, is not alarmed or concerned with the decline. He says this year’s telethon was held about one month earlier than normal. Some fund raising events still lie ahead in March and he believes last year’s total can be matched and even surpassed.

David seems like a nice guy. Maybe he’s the one to fix the child abuse fiasco at Rotary Easter Seals. Up until now the older members have been stubbornly resisting treating the ambassadors better.

All they would have to do is show some human kindness and concern for the children and not just consider them a meal ticket. Attitudes are some of the hardest things to change which is why this Rotary Club seems hopelessly locked in the past.

I used to think money talks but with Rotary the money is irrelevant. They just want the good publicity. Not everyone in the Charlottetown Rotary Club shares that negative viewpoint; however, there are enough members to keep Easter Seals locked in a Jerry Lewis MD Telethon time warp of child abuse.

I was a Rotarian for 20 years and a Paul Harris Fellow. They wouldn’t talk about fixing Easter Seals when I was a member and they don’t want to talk about it now.

Anyways, don’t forget to help out with Camp Gencheff. They need the Rotary money but they’re not like Rotary. They truly care about children with disabilities.
