Crisis travels down river in North Dakota

The Red River flood crisis drags on with each day as the flood peak moves north along the river.

Fargo residents are still working the dikes hoping that breaks and seepage don’t worsen the flooding that has already occurred.

Down stream rural communities and towns like Grand Forks wait for their big crisis. Snow is forecast for Tuesday and people are simply wearing out from the strain.

Moorhead and Dilworth in Minnesota just put out a call for 250 volunteer sand baggers. The river never sleeps in its relentless push to find a way around the sand bags. Rally point is the Wal-Mart parking lot, of course.

2,000 customers in West Fargo lost power this afternoon between 13th Avenue and Sheyanne, including the industrial park.

The Red River is receding from Clay County and Georgetown where the flood turning the town into an Island last week.

Public school officials believe schools will open next Monday. The mayor is considering moving Fargo from High Alert to Alert as the Red River falls to 30.01 feet.
