Dear Mr. Pate:

Thank you for your e-mail sent via the Dept. of Social Services and Seniors.

As you know from your past involvement on the Ministerial Advisory Committee on Disabilities, the committee operates under a very specific terms of reference. Our role is to Provide the Minister responsible with an ongoing consumer voice and advice on issues affecting people with disabilities. The Committee recognizes the potential for improvements to government services to people with disabilities, and we are working hard, with government, to see that improvements are identified and implemented.

Funding is, of course, an ongoing issue and subject to ongoing discussion. Having been a member of the Ministerial Advisory Committee in the past, I’m confident that you are aware of fact that committee members are bound by an oath of confidentiality. For this reason, we are unable to answer your specific questions.

On a personal note, I certainly understand your concerns for people with disabilities. Your advocacy efforts to bring attention to the needs of people in this sector are obviously something you are very passionate about. I too have passion for people with disabilities having been a parent of a severely disabled child, as we as having worked in this field for over 30 years.

The Ministerial Advisory Committee on Disabilities will continue to engage positively and work with government to improve services to people with disabilities, and we wish you well in your similar endeavours.

Twilah Stone, Chair
