Oh Joy It’s Boxing Day

Oh joy. It’s Boxing Day and Canadians everywhere are rushing back to the stores to snap up those bargains. Things are pretty much the same on PEI with a slight twist. Islanders with disabilities are not dreaming of new large screen TV’s as much as they are worried about the high cost of wheelchairs and other assistive devices.

The cut back of $651,000 in the Province’s Disability Support Program means they will have to dig deeper in their pockets to purchase, maintain and transport their wheelchair, walker or other device. Don’t even think about a scooter.

So head on down to Harding Medical, Murphy Pharmacy or Shoppers to see if those wheelchairs are discounted this week. You’ll need it because in the New Order on PEI, those with disabilities have to swallow the bitter pill of Tory mean and miserable ways.
